Manibus

Independent

My name is Amenda Tate. I am an interdisciplinary artist concerned with the expression and quantification of ephemeral, emotional moments. The digital realm is the lens through which we communicate and covet. We electronically analyze individuality, define self, and view other. We quantify as a means to substantiate our lives. My works employ scientific approaches to achieve aesthetic results. It is in the vein emotional self-awareness and evaluation that I create objects, processes, collaborative and exploratory works of art. In Latin, the word Manibus means “the hand.” My Manibus painting robot, serves as a tool to create an artistic depiction of elapsed motion and time. With it, I capture and translate the movement and visceral dynamics of dance into painted works of art. This series of paintings was created as part of a specially commissioned collaboration with the Colorado Ballet, artist Amenda Tate, paintbot Manibus, and filmmaker Jack Meggers. The paintings are acrylic on paper mounted on wood panel. Manibus Project is a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a non-profit arts service organization. Contributions for the charitable purposes of Manibus Project must be made payable to “Fractured Atlas” only and are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.
